On Tuesday, Judge was named a finalist for the American League MVP honor by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA). The Yankees shared Judge’s nomination on X after an incredible 10th season with the organization. “Our Captain has been named a 2025 AL MVP Finalist! 👨‍⚖️ Congrats, @TheJudge44” the team wrote.

Ohtani joined Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber and New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto as finalists for the NL honor. Judge, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez are in the mix for AL MVP.

That broke the previous single-season records for home runs by a catcher (48, Salvador Perez), switch-hitter (54, Mickey Mantle) and Mariner (56, Griffey Jr.).
