Liverpool dedicated the cover of its match-day program to Jota, who played 123 times for the club, and Silva. All players across the league will wear black arm bands this weekend and will take part in a moment of silence. New signing Hugo Ekitike scored Friday's opening goal and celebrated by paying tribute to Jota.

Both the teams were wearing black armbands to pay their respect to Jota and Silva. Before the match started, the crowd gave a beautiful tribute by singing "You will never walk alone".

The entire Anfield, packed to capacity, stood in pin-drop silence before kick-off. Liverpool has decided to retire his number 20 shirt and will honour him with a permanent memorial sculpture at Anfield.
