Boeing said it was ready to support Air India following the crash of a 787 Dreamliner on Thursday. It was the first loss of the widebody aircraft.

"It just appears to me that the airplane is unable to climb," former NTSB investigator Jeff Guzzetti tells NPR. Several explanations could account for that, the aviation expert says.

A Boeing 787 crashed shortly after takeoff in Ahmedabad, India. The aircraft, operated by Air India, was bound for London.

Flight 171 was bound for London’s Gatwick Airport when it crashed near the airport in Ahmedabad, western India.
