Another big honor coming Billy Wagner’s way. Two weeks ago, the Ferrum alum and former Major League Baseball relief pitcher earned election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his final year on the ballot,

The Houston Astros announced Tuesday they will retire Wagner’s No. 13 beginning this season, with an official jersey-retirement ceremony set for Aug. 16 during the franchise’s Hall of Fame weekend (Wagner will enter the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday, July 27). Wagner’s No. 13 will be Houston’s 10th jersey retirement, which currently includes:

Ichiro Suzuki, C.C. Sabathia and Billy Wagner were elected as the newest members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the museum announced.

Billy Wagner – who pitched for the Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets and others – was finally voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in January after 10 years on the ballot.

It will be a busy summer for former left-handed closer Billy Wagner, who will have his No. 13 retired by the Houston Astros before an Aug. 16 home game.
