Michigan is among the states that sued the federal government over a pending rule that seeks extensive access to the records of SNAP recipients.

In announcing the states’ lawsuit, California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta said the 'unprecedented' demand 'violates all kinds of state and federal privacy laws' and 'further breaks the trust between the federal government and the people it serves.

SNAP is a federally funded, state-administered program that delivers billions of dollars in food assistance to low-income families nationwide.
