Many printer brands also offer their own software that lets you scan from your computer. For instance, if you have an HP printer, you can use the HP Smart app to scan documents.

Download the driver. Navigate to Printers & Scanners within System Settings. Select the printer from the list and choose the mode titled: Use printer software from a file on your Mac.
