A former Minneapolis city council member is accused of crashing her car while under the influence of alcohol outside City Hall late Tuesday night.
James Duane Ortley, 35, was recently charged following the Oct. 22 incident at Hennepin County Jail. A man charged in a Minneapolis mass shooting that left four people dead and one critically injured earlier this year has now been charged with assaulting law enforcement while attempting to escape from jail.
James Duane Ortley has been charged with one count of trying to escape from custody, four counts of fourth-degree assault on law enforcement, and one count of first-degree property damage.
Ortley was also one of four people arrested in connection with a Minneapolis crime spree that left two men injured in February. Officials say he was booked on charges of second-degree assault and aggravated robbery. However, Ortley's charges were dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
Mariah Samuels was shot and killed on the morning of September 14 after filing an order for protection and seeking help from police.
The Mill District Japanese restaurant, known for its craft ramen and izakaya fare, will serve its final meal Nov. 22.
On Wednesday, members of the Minneapolis City Council's Health and Safety Committee said they expected to hear an update from the city's police department regarding the internal review of actions leading up to Davis Morturi's shooting last October.
