The stalemate in Congress over funding the Department of Homeland Security has left airports understaffed, causing unpredictable wait times in security lines — waits that have, at times, lasted hours.

The government shutdown has created a TSA shortfall, resulting in long lines at airport security checkpoints across the US.

More than 11% of TSA officers, or 3,120 agents, did not show up for work on Wednesday.
