Protests took place in more than 1,500 cities on the same day that the president's birthday military parade, costing tens of millions of dollars, took place.

As President Donald Trump holds a military parade in Washington, D.C. today to mark the Army’s 250th anniversary and his 79th birthday, Boston is holding a very different kind of celebration. Alongside Saturday’s Boston Pride for the People Parade,

The event — in which participants lined the bridge from Wysor Street to Riverside Avenue — was part of a nationwide "No Kings" protest.

A flagship "No Kings" march and rally are planned in Philadelphia, but no events are scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., where the military parade will take place on Trump's 79th birthday. Organizers of the protests say they want to take attention away from the parade.
