The nation’s air traffic controllers union says the flight cancellations plaguing Newark Liberty International Airport in new Jersey and spilling over to U.S. airports can be traced to a week ago when controllers temporarily lost contact with planes.

The union representing Air Traffic Controllers released new details about technology failures that disrupted flights at Newark's airport.

The claims, which the Federal Aviation Administration hasn’t confirmed, emerged a week after Newark airspace controllers lost all communication for as long as 90 seconds.

Newark Airport is facing a ninth day of delays and cancellations today, as an air traffic controller shortage continues.
