On the same day Shein opened its first store in Paris, the French government said Wednesday it will suspend Shein’s website over its alleged online sale of childlike “sex dolls” online until it complies with French law, according to the Associated Press.
The Chinese fast-fashion retailer, which opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Paris, has come under scrutiny from French authorities and others.
Customs officials were ordered to inspect more than 200,000 packages entering the country at Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Online retail platforms Shein, Temu, AliExpress and Wish are being investigated in France over alleged dissemination of contents including child pornography on their marketplaces, the Paris prosecutor's office said on Tuesday.
