The first offer for Leverkusen has been a loan with an option to buy they are now in talks with City to reach an agreement, McAtee is currently valued at €25m. The 22-year-old has always been a target for Leverkusen but there has never been an opportunity to sign him.

The Magpies are said to be one of the teams who have shown an interest in the 22-year-old in the January transfer window, but face competition from a number of other sides. City are also keen to keep hold of the player, who has been getting more game-time in recent weeks.

Leverkusen were seemingly prepared to offer McAtee a Bundesliga escape route before the transfer window shuts on February 3. However, according to The Telegraph, Man City have rejected Leverkusen's formal proposal to sign McAtee on an initial loan deal.
