After slamming everything from clothing to avocados with tariffs, now President Donald Trump has taken aim at films. “The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death,” Trump proclaimed on Truth Social last week, while floating a 100 percent tariff on movies “produced in Foreign Lands.”

Trump has not endorsed a federal film subsidy. But in calling for a tariff, he has conceded that a problem exists that requires some sort of federal action. “The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Declaring foreign film production a national security threat, the president said he had asked his top trade official to start the process of imposing a tax on Hollywood.
