Seven firefighters were injured after a car exploded in New York City, according to officials. Shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) received reports of a fire. When firefighters arrived at the scene, multiple cars and piles of rubbish were on fire.
Officials say garbage and debris on the sidewalk, and a couple of cars were on fire at the location before a large explosion occurred.
Shortly after, an explosion occurred the scene, Esposito said at a press conference, injuring seven firefighters, including five with burns to the hands and face. Three of the firefighters were admitted to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for treatment of serious but non-life threatening burns, he said.
Firefighters from FDNY Engine 82 in the Bronx responded to a vehicle fire and were injured by an explosion. Several FDNY firefighters were injured Wednesday night after a large explosion occurred as they responded to a car fire in the Bronx.
Video obtained by News 12 captures the moment a car exploded after catching fire in Longwood. The FDNY says six firefighters were hospitalized. The FDNY was called to 955 Westchester Ave. just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
