The Senate on Tuesday failed to advance a House-passed bill to sanction International Criminal Court officials for the court’s arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over military actions in the Gaza Strip.

Democrats in the Senate voted on Tuesday to block a bill to place US sanctions on the International Criminal Court, which in November issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Senate Democrats on Tuesday blocked a Republican-led measure that would sanction the International Criminal Court, arguing that the bill as written would backfire on U.S. allies and companies. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the only Democrat to vote with Republicans to advance the legislation.
