Americans will celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, on Thursday with parades and parties. Juneteenth became the newest U.S. federal holiday in 2021, but it has held significance for many Black Americans for a long time.

Many banks will be closed on Thursday for Juneteenth, though ATMs and online banking will still be available. Major banks planning to close on Thursday, June 19 include: Bank of America Corp., JPMorgan Chase and Co., Wells Fargo, Truist, CitiBank and Capital One.
