We were just in Hawaii and we took a tour boat out into the ocean to see the lava flow from Kilauea off the Big Island. We went after dark which made it really dramatic. It was beautiful and also tragic, knowing this lava destroyed hundreds of houses and displaced thousands of families. Still it was a thrill, being so close we could feel the heat and steam from the lava. It was glowing, bubbling, sparking and crackling.
