The warning song of Missouri's largest venomous snake - the timber rattlesnake. Shannon County conservation agents recently relocated this rattler after a landowner found it in his chicken house. Though the landowner understood and appreciated the role this snake plays in Missouri's ecosystem, he didn't want it around his outbuildings or yard. Thank you to MDC’s Darren Thornhill for this video of a nonvenomous eastern hog-nosed snake. Darren explained it is flattening its head and hissing to make us think it’s dangerous, but it’s non-venomous and harmless. They may even fake strike, but they lack fangs and will keep their mouths closed. Hog-nosed snakes hunt and eat toads and are immune to their skin secretions. People should enjoy the show, take a video from a comfortable distance, and then leave them alone to do their thing. Althoug
