A major marine heatwave is pushing Bay waters into rare territory. Scientists say sea-surface temps are 7°F above normal in parts of the northeast Pacific, and right off San Francisco they’ve hit 64°F, some of the warmest readings in years. By contrast, our 14-year early-September average water temp is 59 to 61°F, with record highs around 63°F. So right now we’re already above normal, and even above past peaks.
