The Ringtail! Arizona’s State Mammal: Ringtails were named Arizona’s state mammal in 1986. They are nocturnal animals related to the raccoon and coati family and are excellent climbers. They’re small, around 24 inches in length including the tail! Meeko, our resident ringtail, was brought to Southwest Wildlife in 2014 in partnership with Arizona Game and Fish. When a young seal was spotted napping on a New Jersey road on Feb. 24, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center sent help. “It seems this pup wasn’t successfully feeding herself, dropping back down to close to birth weight by the time she completed her 300 mile marathon swim south from the pupping grounds in Canada and New England to New Jersey,” the Marine Mammal Stranding Center shared in an update.
