Souvenir Jackets, or スカジャン (Sukajan in Japanese) have a history rooted in post-WWII Japanese history. The American GI’s who were stationed on the Yokosuka military base following WWII would take the remnants of used parachutes capes and have local tailors in the area make jackets for them. Drawing inspiration from a combination of tattoo art and Japanese motifs, the local tailors were directed to add embroidery to the chest area and back of the jacket.
