Summerspace is indicative of Cunningham’s unique collaborative method, in which music, designs and choreography were all prepared apart from one another, meeting for the first time only at rehearsals - or even at the first performance. Together, the movement, music and décor give the effect of a balmy summer day in a boundless garden.

Choreographer Merce Cunningham’s “Scenario” premiered at the BAM on October 14th, 1997 as a collaboration with Rei Kawakubo.
