I thought it was a real person when I first saw him. I stopped walking because his eyes felt alive and his presence filled the whole room. This is Tūhuru, the Māori chief who once protected the pounamu lands of the West Coast and led his people through battles, change, and generations of history that still shape Aotearoa today. His story lives inside the land, the rivers, and the pathways where pounamu is found. Today he stands here at the Pounamu Pathway in Greymouth, created with incredible re
